The collection is based on the extensive folklore gathered by Ernie O’Malley (1897–1957), best known as a revolutionary leader and author of On Another Man’s Wound and The Singing Flame. Less widely known is his deep engagement with Irish storytelling traditions, which he recorded during his travels across Ireland while involved in political and military activity. His son Cormac has transcribed and preserved these materials, making them accessible for a modern audience.
