Description

This most distinguished naval officer who gave his entire life dedicated to the Spanish Armada, was introduced to me by his compatriot Admiral Pascual O’Dogherty who also dedicated his life to the Spanish Armada and ended his work for Spain as Director or the Canal de Experienceias Hidrodinámicas. I was fortunate, when living in Madrid, to have made the acquaintance of Hugo O’Donnell, y Duque de Estrada, who is rightly regarded as one of Spain’s most distinguished historians.

Hugo is also decended from one of Ireland’s most distinguished families, the O’Donnells of Donegal, whose ancestors had emigrated at the end of the Seventeenth Century and who also have a distinguished record in their historic achievements in Spain over the intervening centuries. I am greatful to Hugo for his encouragement and historical insights.
