Description
[SPENSER, 2011]
In this extended verse narrative, Seán Lysaght gives us a vivid account of Edmund Spenser’s life, from his early years in the Tudor period under Elizabeth I to his later career as an official in Ireland. This work reflects the contradictions in Spenser’s life, between his vocation as a poet of the Renaissance and his support for England’s policy of dispossession during this violent period, encompassing the Munster Plantation and the Nine Years’ War. A victim of this failed colonial project, Spenser stands at the interface between culture and history, between violence and civilisation.
